Argentina reinforces responsible gaming with federal prevention campaigns

Argentina has once again prioritized responsible gaming within its regulatory agenda. With the start of Responsible Gaming Month, public buildings across the country are illuminated in green as a symbol of a national campaign that seeks to raise awareness of the risks associated with problem gambling and promote safe and controlled entertainment practices.

The initiative is coordinated by the Responsible Gaming Program of the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC) and takes place throughout February, reinforcing a public policy that has been in place uninterruptedly since 2016. The central focus is on early prevention, education, and the dissemination of clear information to citizens.

Awareness and Education Actions in Argentina

During the month, regulators in Argentina intensify an agenda of activities that includes informational talks, technical training, and meetings with specialists in the prevention of risky behaviors. The objective is to foster healthy gaming habits and provide tools to identify early signs of problem gambling.

One of the central actions of the campaign is the launch of the provincial contest “How much do you know about healthy gaming?”, an initiative open to the public that will be valid until February 26. The contest is structured around six key questions that address fundamental concepts of responsible gaming, the limits of entertainment, and the importance of self-control.

In parallel, an internal institutional contest is being held for Lottery staff, with the aim of reinforcing internal commitment and consolidating an organizational culture aligned with prevention policies.

Key Pillars of the Responsible Gaming Campaign

The campaign unfolds with constant communication throughout February, focusing on several central pillars:

  • Dissemination of the risks of problem gambling.
  • Emphasizing that gambling is not an activity suitable for minors.
  • Promotion of healthy and controlled gaming guidelines.
  • Information on available assistance channels and help tools.
  • Warning about the social and economic consequences of illegal gambling.
  • Relevance of the legal regulatory framework as a guarantee of player protection.

Federal Coordination and the Role of ALEA

The initiative is coordinated at the national level through the Association of State Lotteries of Argentina (ALEA), which allows for the consolidation of a federal, homogeneous, and sustained strategy over time. This coordinated work among provinces strengthens prevention standards and reinforces the State’s role as a guarantor of safe gaming.

Growth of the Illegal Market as the Main Threat

Awareness campaigns are being developed at a complex time for the gaming industry in Argentina. In the webinar “Argentina 2025: Main Challenges and Opportunities in Regulatory Compliance,” organized by SBC, specialists from the public and private sectors agreed that the market is moving towards greater professionalization.

However, they also warned that the main challenge remains the expansion of illegal gambling. Some estimates indicate that between 75% and 80% of bets are placed outside the regulated circuit, exposing users to greater risks and limiting the State’s ability to protect them.

Awareness as a Complement to Regulation

In this scenario, responsible gaming campaigns are consolidated as a complementary tool to regulation. Beyond rules, education and information become key to reducing the demand for illegal gambling and strengthening a sustainable, transparent industry focused on player well-being.

A Preventive Approach Gaining Prominence in the Region

The Argentine experience shows how responsible gaming policies can be sustained over time and adapted to new market challenges. In a regional context where regulation and the fight against illegal gambling are central issues, awareness is emerging as a strategic pillar for the future of the sector.
