It was detailed that the list includes those places that have found in tourism their source of opportunities and engine for sustainable development, standing out for the amount of cultural and natural resources, as well as the promotion and conservation of economic, social, and environmental sustainability, and tourism potential and development, among other factors.

“We reaffirm our commitment to continue working together with the management entities of tourist destinations, so that more towns in Peru can join this initiative year after year and become part of the Network of Best Tourist Villages,” commented Roberto Sánchez, head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism portfolio.

The results were announced following votes from industry professionals. Media and tourists also participated in this election, taking for granted that the sustainable practices that are also developed in this category are fundamental for travelers’ preference.

“The cruise tourism industry is particularly important for regions that see opportunities in the development of sustainable practices around natural resources and emblematic landscapes such as, for example, the Amazon River, located in the Peruvian Jungle,” it was detailed on the Peru.Travel platform, the official tourism website of the country.

ACCUMULATION OF AWARDS

But the successes did not end with these recognitions. In mid-December, it was also announced that the country received three important distinctions in the latest edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA): Leading Culinary Destination 2021 and Leading Cultural Destination 2021. In addition, Machu Picchu won as Leading Tourist Attraction 2021.

“These awards are the perfect closing to a year with important recognitions for Peru that enhance the tourist quality of our country and position us as the dream destination to visit,” stated the Government.
