The Inti Raymi celebration in Cusco had an economic impact of 33 million soles

After the celebration of Inti Raymi, a great economic reactivation has been achieved in the community of Cusco, which has positioned our country in the global spotlight. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has released the impressive figures from the activities honoring the Sun God.

According to Mincetur, the massive arrival of national and foreign tourists, as well as the large attendance of the local population, has generated an economic impact of 33 million soles.

Minister Juan Carlos Mathews commented: “Around 36,000 attendees were mobilized. 44% were local residents, 31.5% were foreign tourists, and 24.5% were national tourists. During these festivities, the economic activities of the region, especially those linked to tourism, have experienced a positive boost.”

What places did they visit?

According to a study conducted by the Directorate General of Research and Studies of Tourism and Handicrafts, of the total international tourists present at this new edition of Inti Raymi, 28.1% came from the United States, 16.3% were citizens of Brazil, 11.8% from Colombia, 6.5% from France, and 5.9% each from Argentina and Chile. Additionally, 3.3% arrived from Spain.

In addition to knowing the economic impact generated by this important festivity, the most visited tourist sites during the celebration have also been revealed. According to the report presented by Mincetur, the most outstanding destinations were the following:

– Plaza Mayor (80%)

– Citadel of Machu Picchu (76.1%)

– Fortress of Sacsayhuamán (47.8%)

– Archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo (45.4%)

Also included are Rainbow Mountain (30.7%), Koricancha (30.2%), Cusco Cathedral (29.3%), Maras Salt Mines (27.8%), Moray (24.9%), and Humantay Lake (20.5%).

According to the study, 37% of the surveyed tourists highlighted the organization of the event and the diversity of tourist attractions offered by the region as the most outstanding aspects of their stay. Another 34.6% mentioned being impressed by the landscapes and nature of the area, while 34.6% valued the local history and culture. 32.2% mentioned the importance of visiting Machu Picchu, and 21% were fascinated by the local gastronomy.
